November Decorating & Touches of Thanksgiving 2024

It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving Day is right around the corner!  I've changed up things a little bit since November rolled over on the calendar... and I've added a few changes around here for Thanksgiving too....Here's how things are looking this year.....

Lately it's been cooler in the mornings.... and I've been so happy to be able to turn on the electric fireplace in the sitting room for a little while... though the a/c does get turned on later in the day still, lol! I'll take what I can get...I know the cooler weather will be here to stay soon... I  can hardly wait to wear some of my cozy sweaters!

I made the centerpiece myself with things I already had. I started with a small cream colored linen table runner, I simply laid everything down on the center of it, starting with a sugared fruit swag and a couple of small matching candle ring wreaths on each side of the swag, I put the turkey in the center, added in two silver candle holders and cream colored taper candles, and lastly, added some ribbon and bows and some pinecones. I might still add in a few sprigs of faux boxwood underneath the pinecones in the front, but come to think of it,  I don't think I can get to them at the moment, because we have been cleaning out our storage building and things are blocking my greenery storage totes, at the moment....anyway, I love how this turned out, and it was so easy.

Our vintage Lefton Pilgrim Couple made their yearly appearance near the dining room table...I decided to showcase the couple on this flat bottomed vintage cranberry dish, (it's an extra one that I have), I think the details on it are so pretty....I love collecting glass pieces that are versatile...I have used this glass dish before as a jewelry holder on my dresser too!

Our little iron garden stand that's in our kitchen, was a $10 indoor flea market find that I picked up a few years ago, I remember wanting it because of the charming ironwork that reminded me of our visits to New Orleans, Savanah Georgia and Mobile Alabama .... it got a different look for Thanksgiving.... after we accidentally found our pretty fall looking bell (it was in with our bell collection) out in our storage building. We found it when we were cleaning out some things out there....I felt inspired when I saw it and felt like it would look pretty with our Thanksgiving decor. I like how it looks next to the antique Thanksgiving Postcard and vintage brown transferware bread plate....

A few more antique Thanksgiving Postcards....

Happy Thanksgiving to You and Yours and God Bless you!

Until next time...stay creative....
and have a beautiful day!

Fall Decorating 2024

It's feeling a little bit more like fall...so when the calendar flipped over to October, I felt like putting out some fall decor....

Here's how things are looking this fall season....

Starting with The Front Porch...
The Living Room.....

The Kitchen and Dining Room

After decorating and taking the photos, I found a few more decor items stashed away, so I added them in and tweaked a few things (above is the tweaked photo)...

Outside the French Doors and onto The Covered Back Porch....

I made the wreath and flower arrangements from items I already had in my storage building (from mostly thrifted things)

And lastly, The Tiny Sitting Room

This year I mostly left what was already on the shelf from summer...just changing out a couple of things and adding in a couple of touches of fall with the feathers, pheasant and pumpkin...

I tweaked the bottom shelf, by taking out the mini terra cotta garden pots that were underneath the glass cloche, and I replaced it with my handmade birds nest, I found underneath my tv cabinet, (I had hidden it from my self to keep it safe, lol!), the nest had robin blue clay bird eggs in it from spring decorating, and I  just left the nest empty for the fall season....I see now that the glass cloche needs dusting...I think I probably need to go dust all the shelves too...

I kept things a little more simple this year in my fall decor, mostly because we have been busy sorting and cleaning out a lot of the things in our storage totes over the last several weeks. During the clean out, I've realized that I have way too much seasonal stuff to choose from, and too much stuff in general, and when thinking about decorating...I've found that decision fatigue is real, especially real when there is too much to choose from, lol! I was happy that we could clean out things, and have a yard sale this past Saturday. We didn't do as well with the yard sale as we'd hoped for, but I'm thankful for the things that we cleared out, and for the progress we did make. I'm still cleaning out things, the Christmas storage totes are next. I'll lower the prices for the next yard sales that we have in the coming months. I'm so glad the weather is cooling down in our area and will be great for a yard sale. We'll donate some things to the local charity thrift shops at some point as well. It has felt so great getting rid of the things that I don't think I'll use anymore.

On a side note, for my outside flower arrangements I used flowers I had in my storage bins that I'd been saving, (for what I have no idea!) There's no use saving them...I'm using them and enjoying them outside on our porches this season, and then I'll be tossing them out when the season is over. In the past, I've washed and kept them, but I think it's safe to say, these are getting dry rotted from keeping them too long, and I have plenty of artificial flowers to use in the storage bins, for in the future. I think I've had a hard time tossing things out, because I'm such an old soul. I'm in my 50's, but you'd think I grew up during the great depression era, if you could see the way I save and recycle things, and the way I have a tendency to hold onto worn out things for way too long. lol!

Well that's it for now, I hope my post inspired you in some small way!

Until next time...enjoy this fall season...
Stay creative and have a beautiful day!

I Can't Believe It's Almost Officially Fall...

I can't believe it's already almost the end of September, and that this weekend will officially be the start of the fall season. Summer is still hanging on in my area, I knew it would be for a while yet, so a couple of months ago I put a couple of Morning Glory seeds in this small pot of marigolds that is beside my front door. It looks like I hoped that it would for September. I hope it continues to grow well into October, I can see a little pumpkin sitting there on the chair, can't you? I will be decorating some for fall, whenever the weather is feeling right, and things begin to change more outside, and cool down too, (we're still in the upper 80's right now). I  will be sure to get some snapshots of my fall decorating to share, whenever I decorate.

Until next time...

Stay Creative and have a beautiful day!
